Gut Oggau Winifred 2023

Gut Oggau was founded in 2007 by Stephanie and Eduard Tscheppe in the village of Oggau near Lake Neusiedl. The couple restored an abandoned 17th-century winery and farms their vineyards biodynamically, with each cuvée represented as a member of the fictional Gut Oggau family.

Winifred comes from approximately 45-year-old Blaufränkisch and Rotburger vines grown on gravel in a parcel specifically dedicated to rosé production. The fruit is destemmed and direct pressed into neutral Austrian oak, then spends approximately eight months on its lees without bâtonnage. It is bottled unfined, unfiltered and without added SO₂.

Tasting Notes
Colour: Vibrant salmon-pink with slightly cloudy, natural brilliance.
Nose: Wild strawberry, cranberry and watermelon with red florals, herbs and subtle allspice.
Palate: Juicy yet dry, with tart red fruit, lively acidity and a gentle savoury edge. Gravelly minerality and subtle tannin give it more structure than a typical rosé.
Finish: Fresh and persistent with cranberry, citrus, herbs and a salty mineral note.
