Gaja Barbaresco DOCG 2020

Gaja Barbaresco DOCG 2020

So many aromas of fresh rose petals as well as hibiscus tea. Medium-bodied with crunchy and flowery character with sliced strawberries and a bright finish. So appealing with lovely structure. Chewy at the end. Drinkable but better in three or four years. - James Suckling

Gaja Barbaresco DOCG

Founded in Barbaresco in 1859, Gaja has remained in the family for five generations and is widely credited with helping elevate Barbaresco and Piedmontese wine onto the international fine-wine stage. Under Angelo Gaja, the estate became known for combining respect for traditional Nebbiolo with meticulous vineyard work and innovative winemaking, including pioneering single-vineyard bottlings and the thoughtful use of smaller oak vessels.

Tasting Notes
Colour: Clear ruby red with garnet highlights, showing the characteristic translucence of Nebbiolo.

Nose: Highly perfumed, with fresh rose, violet and hibiscus layered over strawberry, ripe cherry and red berries. Orange peel, delicate spice, herbs and subtle mineral notes add complexity.

Palate: Elegant and vibrant, with strawberry, raspberry, blackberry and blood orange carried by fresh acidity. Fine, integrated tannins provide structure without overwhelming the fruit, while floral, tea and savoury notes develop through the mid-palate.

Finish: Long, lifted and refined, with lingering red fruit, orange, florals, delicate spice and a firm yet polished tannic grip.
