Castelvecchi Chianti Classico

Castelvecchi is a historic estate located in Radda in Chianti, one of the highest and coolest communes within the Chianti Classico appellation. The estate dates back centuries and is known for producing wines that reflect the elegance and structure associated with high-altitude Chianti vineyards.

The wine is primarily made from Sangiovese, often complemented by small amounts of traditional local varieties depending on the vintage. Vineyards are planted on galestro and limestone-rich soils, which contribute freshness, minerality, and fine tannic structure.

Fermentation is carried out in temperature-controlled tanks, followed by ageing in oak barrels and/or larger casks to soften tannins and integrate the wine while preserving varietal purity and regional expression. The style remains balanced and food-friendly, with a focus on authenticity rather than overt oak or extraction.

Tasting Notes
Colour: Bright ruby with garnet reflections
Nose: Aromas of cherry, red currant, and plum, with notes of violet, dried herbs, tobacco, and subtle spice
Palate: Medium-bodied, with vibrant acidity and refined tannins; flavours of red fruit, savoury earth, and light oak spice create balance and depth
Finish: Long and elegant, with lingering cherry, spice, and earthy Tuscan character

Cellaring & Pairings
Enjoy now or cellar for 5–8 years to allow further integration and complexity.

Pairs well with tomato-based pasta dishes, roasted poultry, grilled meats, and mushroom dishes. Also complements charcuterie, aged Pecorino, and traditional Tuscan cuisine.
