L. Lurton Barsac Sauternes 2011

The L. Lurton Barsac-Sauternes 2011 is tied to Château Doisy-Dubroca, an important historic property in Barsac. This is worth clarifying because the abbreviated L. Lurton label can make the wine's origins easy to miss. Doisy-Dubroca was classified Deuxième Cru, or Second Growth, in the famous 1855 Classification of Sauternes and Barsac. It was also the smallest of the classified Sauternes/Barsac estates. The property was once part of the larger historic Doisy estate before it was divided into the three estates known today as Doisy-Daëne, Doisy-Védrines, and Doisy-Dubroca. Lucien Lurton acquired Doisy-Dubroca in 1971, and the property was subsequently managed by his son Louis Lurton.

Tasting Notes
Colour: Bright golden straw when young, now developing deeper gold and amber tones with bottle age.

Nose: Rich and complex, opening with pear, peach, mango, and honeysuckle, followed by dried apricot, honey, quince, and more mature notes of marmalade and vanilla. The botrytis adds an intriguing floral, honeyed, and lightly savoury dimension.

Palate: Lush and viscous on entry, with ripe white peach, apricot, pineapple, mango, and lime oil. The key is balance: despite considerable sweetness and concentration, vibrant acidity keeps the palate fresh and prevents it from feeling heavy. With more than a decade of bottle development, expect secondary notes of honey, dried fruit, marmalade, almond, and caramel to become increasingly apparent.

Finish: Long, clean, and beautifully balanced, with persistent tropical and stone fruit complemented by citrus, honey, subtle earthiness, and a touch of coconut.
