G.D. Vajra Dolcetto d'Alba

G.D. Vajra is one of Piedmont’s most respected family-owned estates, based in Barolo and known for combining traditional winemaking with precision and elegance. While the winery is internationally recognized for Barolo, it also produces benchmark expressions of classic regional varieties such as Dolcetto.

Dolcetto d’Alba is sourced from hillside vineyards in the Langhe, where calcareous soils and moderate elevations help preserve freshness while allowing the grape to achieve full flavour ripeness. Unlike Nebbiolo, Dolcetto is intended for earlier drinking and emphasizes fruit, softness, and immediacy.

Fermentation is carried out in stainless steel with gentle extraction to preserve aromatic purity and avoid excessive tannin. Oak influence is minimal or absent, keeping the focus on varietal freshness and regional character.

Tasting Notes
Colour: Deep ruby with purple hues
Nose: Aromas of blackberry, plum, and black cherry, with hints of violet, almond, and light spice
Palate: Medium-bodied, with juicy dark fruit flavours, soft tannins, and balanced acidity; subtle savoury and earthy notes add complexity
Finish: Fresh and smooth, with lingering dark fruit and a lightly bitter almond note typical of Dolcetto

Cellaring & Pairings
Best enjoyed within 3–5 years of vintage to preserve its freshness and fruit-driven character.
Pairs well with pasta dishes, pizza, charcuterie, and roasted poultry. Also complements mushroom dishes, soft cheeses, and everyday Italian cuisine.
