Hart Brothers Balmenach 13 Years is a unique whisky, as independent, single cask bottlings from this distillery rarely appear. This bottling has matured in a first fill oloroso sherry butt.The nose opens lemonade-sweet and powerful. It quickly becomes round, rich and full of elegant sherry aromas, citrus and overripe cherries. The firm taste has notes of overripe cherries, licorice, herbal bitters, mint, dark pickled fruit and blueberries. The pleasant and lingering finish is sweetly tingly with hints of red, fruity desert wine. This whiskey is really special, as Balmenach can often be.
