Robert Gilvesy Varadi Furmint

Founded by Hungarian-Canadian Robert Gilvesy, the winery sits on Szent György-hegy, an extinct volcanic hill in the Badacsony wine region. Gilvesy focuses on organically farmed vineyards and varieties that clearly express the mountain’s basalt-rich volcanic soils.

Váradi is a single-vineyard, 100% Furmint from the windy southwest side of Szent György-hegy. The vineyard’s volcanic basalt soils give the wine pronounced mineral character and naturally firm acidity. Grapes are hand harvested and spontaneously fermented with native yeasts, followed by ageing on fine lees in 500 L Hungarian oak.
