Ad Vivum 2018 Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon

Ad Vivum is the personal project of winemaker Chris Phelps, focused exclusively on Cabernet Sauvignon from two small blocks of Sleeping Lady Vineyard at the western edge of Yountville. Cooling influence from San Pablo Bay slows ripening, while gravelly-sandy clay loam soils provide drainage and contribute to the wine’s freshness and structure.

The 2018 is 100% Cabernet Sauvignon, composed of 67% Clone 191 and 33% Clone 7. An even, moderate growing season allowed a long ripening period, with fruit harvested October 17. After a 48-hour cold soak and 23 days of maceration, the wine matured for 20 months in 75% new French oak. Only 475 cases were produced.

Tasting Notes
Colour: Deep garnet-purple with an opaque core.

Nose: Cassis, blackberry and ripe plum with violet, cedar, tobacco, mocha and subtle dried herbs.

Palate: Full-bodied and concentrated, with blackcurrant and dark plum supported by lively acidity and firm, finely grained tannins.

Finish: Long and mineral-driven, with lingering graphite, dark fruit, spice and savoury tobacco.
