Changyu Moser Helan Mountain Red

Changyu Moser XV is a collaboration between China’s historic Changyu winery and Austrian winemaker Lenz Moser, aimed at showcasing the potential of Ningxia as a world-class wine region. Vineyards are located along the Helan Mountain range, where high altitude, intense sunlight, and significant diurnal temperature shifts contribute to both ripeness and preserved acidity.

The Helan Mountain Red is typically a Bordeaux-style blend, often featuring Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and Cabernet Franc. These varieties perform well in Ningxia’s dry climate and gravelly soils, producing wines with structure and depth.

Fermentation is carried out in temperature-controlled tanks, followed by ageing in French oak barrels (a portion new) to add complexity, integrate tannins, and enhance texture. The style reflects a balance between New World ripeness and Old World structure.

Tasting Notes
Colour: Deep ruby with purple hues
Nose: Aromas of blackcurrant, blackberry, and plum, with notes of cedar, spice, and subtle herbal undertones
Palate: Medium- to full-bodied, with ripe dark fruit, structured tannins, and balanced acidity; hints of cocoa, tobacco, and oak spice add depth
Finish: Smooth and persistent, with lingering fruit, spice, and a lightly savoury character

Cellaring & Pairings
Enjoy now with decanting or cellar for 5–10 years to allow further integration and development.
Pairs well with grilled meats, lamb, and roasted dishes. Also complements hearty cuisine, braised meats, and aged cheeses.
